Numerical comparison study on heat transfer enhancement of different cross-section wire coils insert with varying pitches in a duct

Heat transfer enhancement (HTE) efforts spent during the last half-century have become one of most important working areas researchers from both academia and industry. One popular passive methods, with regard to price-performance ratio, is place wire coils in a pipe or duct. In this study, heat pressure drop characteristics diamond, triangular, circular cross-sectional (DWC, TWC, CWC) square duct were investigated by using FLUENT program. addition cross-section examination, thermo-hydraulic behavior three different pitches (p = 54, 72, 90 mm) for specified geometries also investigated. The Reynolds number was between 4387 18,415. 1.25 m length, 18 mm diameter. results showed that Nusselt CWC, DWC higher than smooth within 38–88%, 37–93%, 38–98% range, respectively. friction observed be plain tube range 87–278%, 82–266%, 107–366%, TWC pitch highest performance evaluation criteria (PEC) coefficient 1.3 at 4504, whereas 54 show lowest PEC. Thus, as-obtained PEC, which 30% tube, indicates prominence effectiveness numerical study increasing transfer.
